The Chronicle of Higher Education - Intern
This summer I was a breaking news intern for The Chronicle of Higher Education in Washington, D.C. My responsibilities included populating the breaking news blog, the Ticker, as well as working on larger stories. I was sent to Charlottesville and provided live, on-the-ground coverage as well as social media posts during the protests, delved into why Texas A&M fired a provost just weeks before retirement and wrote in-depth on the difficulties facing international students with mental illness.
The Daily Mississippian – Editor-in-chief
April 2016- April 2017

Since my freshman year in 2013, I’ve worked in many positions at the University of Mississippi’s student-led newspaper. I have had the privilege of working as a writer, photographer, designer and editor on various desks. Working for The DM  has given me the opportunity to see many sides of the publishing process that I otherwise could not have as as student. This year I applied for and received the position as editor-in-chief.

The Daily Mississippian has ranked as one of the top three student-led daily newspapers in the nation by the Society of Professional journalists two consecutive years, both of which I served in leading positions on the staff. The papers submitted to the judges included several of my articles. In 2015, my work submitted to the SPJ regionals was both the winner and a finalist of the general news category and a finalist in the breaking news reporting category. I also started and edited the DM's first audio-only podcast, which we now air weekly.

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - Intern
Summer 2016 (May-August)

Though hired as a copy editing intern, I also freelanced for the ADG and had two stories printed on the front page, one of which was the Sunday edition special feature. Through this internship I honed my knowledge of AP Style while gaining valuable experience in long-form reporting.

Southeast Journalism Conference Student President

As the SEJC Student President, I helped plan the 2017 conference held in Oxford, Mississippi. I oversaw competitions, moderated speakers and designed various awards and pamphlets for the conference.

National Newspaper Association Foundation - Fellowship
2016 News Fellow - Washington D.C.

The National Newspaper Association Foundation chooses one student each from several states to participate in it's Spring Break fellowship program. The fellows travel to Washington, D.C. to interview represenatives of their state on a central topic. This year's topic was terrorism. That article is published in each student's college newspaper and then made available to the NNAF for republication. Though the foundation has not published on this year's meeting yet, this is a report from the 2014 gathering.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution – Freelance

After the family of an Ole Miss student died in a plane crash on their way to see him graduate, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution asked me to cover the graduation ceremony on May 9 in Oxford and the university’s reaction to the tragedy.

The Magee Courier – Intern
December - January 2014

During the Christmas break of my sophomore year, I took an internship at a local newspaper 30 minutes from my home town. This internship assigned me both feature and news content and allowed me to continue to photograph regularly. At the Courier, I learned the importance of small-town journalism and how it can affect a community.

The Clarksdale Press Register – Intern
Summer 2014

The summer after my freshman year I received an internship with a newspaper in Clarksdale, Mississippi. As the only intern, I wrote both news and feature content, photographed and reviewed editions before print. This intern- ship gave me the opportunity to see how a newsroom works and introduced me to the importance of press in a city that is yearning for rebirth.
